Have you ever wanted to do something extraordinarily such as running a marathon, taking a karate class, participating in ironman triathlon, or becoming an entrepreneur … but you stopped yourself immediately: “It’s too late. I am too old.”
If you have, you are not alone. In my life coaching journey, I have met many who after discovering their dream immediately stopped themselves with this though: “I am too old.” They wished they had met me 10 years ago, 20 years ago, or even 30 years ago. I wished so too, though I would have no idea what I would have said to them if they met me 10,20, 30 years ago. Shifting their mindset from “it’s too late” to “I must start now or it will be too late” was a miracle to them.
The following examples helped many and my sincere hope is that you will see for yourself: Start now, it’s never too late.
Julia Child did not learn to cook until she was 40. Yet, she became one of the most famous chefs in history.

Susan Boyle came to Britain’s Got Talent when she was 48. She was an instant hit with her song: “I dreamed a dream.” She amassed a net worth of over $37 million since then.

Ray Kroc met McDonald brothers when he was 52. He convinced McDonald brothers to let him help with the franchises. Later on, Ray convinced McDonald brothers to sell their business to him. Ray went on to become a billionaire. McDonald is now the most successful burger franchise in the world.

Nola Ochs graduated from Fort Hays State University in Kansas in 2007 when she was 95. In 2010, Nola received her master degree. She started writing her first book when she turned 100.

Helen Klein was 55 when she started training with her husband for his marathon. She smoked for 25 years and had never run a mile in her life before that. She completed more than 60 marathons and 140 ultramarathons. Helen ran five 100-mile mountain trail events within 16 weeks when she was 66. She ran 145 miles across Sahara when she was 72. Yet, she only started when she was 55.

Recently I was inspired by T.Boone Pickens who was a very successful oil man. He was forced out of his company at 68. At the same time, he went through a nasty divorce. Never a believer in stopping or retiring, Pickens picked himself up again to form a start-up with 5 employees trading futures. He studied for the commodity trading license and took the test 6 times before passing. From a small start-up, Pickens turned it into a power house and made himself a multi-billionaire. He became more successful after 68 than ever before.
It’s never too late to do anything.
